Last week we delivered the bags to WECC. It was the most amazing experience. We arrived at the facility and brought in all of the bags. They picked out a handful of students for us to meet. We got to personally give 6 kids their bags. The reactions of the children were unlike anything you can experience anywhere else. The children were so grateful for even something as small as a stuffed animal. Each student opened a blanket and each student had the biggest smile. The next day we were contacted and told that every student brought their blanket back the next day for nap time. This experience was one that I will cherish forever. These kids taught me more in a matter of minutes than I can ever learn in a classroom. There aren't words to describe this experience or the impact this project has had on me.

Since the last time we posted, we have accomplished a lot. We made tags for each bag that says what is included in it. We also collected shirts for the rest of the bags. We have received some donations for balls and toys. We also have obtained fleece to make blankets for the little kids. We are going to cut and tie the blankets for each kid to have. We have put together most of the packs and we will be delivering them next week. In total, we made 51 packs filled with blankets, stuffed animals, t-shirts, balls, toys, and snacks.
Over the past couple weeks, we have made a lot of progress on our project. We received bins from the Hancock Food Pantry to collect donations in. Then we decorated the bins and made posters to hang up around the schools. We dropped off bins and posters at NPE, Brandywine, Sugar Creek, and NPI. At the elementary schools, we are collecting stuffed animals, and at NPI, we are collecting blankets. So far we have received multiple stuffed animal donations, but sadly we have not received any blankets. The bins will continue to be at the schools for at least another week. We have started to put some of the items in to bags. So far, we have books, stuffed animals, cards, and football shirts for the boys. We are also in the process of finding a way to get reusable water bottles and new blankets for the bags. As long as everything continues as planned, we should be able to make around 50 bags!
My new project is called Bedtime Blessings. I am working with Audrey VanderWal to make bags for kids who don't have much and can't afford anything. We are working teachers from different schools to see what is needed and how many kids need something. We are currently planning on putting stuffed animals, blankets, water bottles, and snacks in drawstring bags to give to the kids. We are hoping to do a drive at all of the schools that lead kids to New Palestine High School. At the elementary schools, we hope to have a drive to get stuffed animals. At the intermediate school and the middle school, we hope to collect blankets. Next week, we are going to talk to the schools to plan everything. We have been trying to figure out the pricing for everything and it would cost about $600 for 50 bags if we bought everything. We are hoping that the drive will provide for most of the things needed because we have to find a way to get the money and the items. I am very excited to begin
