Last week, on February 6th, Sara Feasel and Joyce Helfers came to New Palestine High School for a convocation. The convocation was for juniors and seniors. Students had the opportunity to learn what sex trafficking is, who is at risk, and what they can do to protect themselves. Joyce informed students about the dangers of sex trafficking and what they can do to take precautions. After Joyce finished her presentation, a survivor gave her testimony. She talked about how she got into sex trafficking as well as how she is recovering. She recently graduated from a recovery program at The Hope Center. Sara finished the convocation by telling the students more about The Hope Center. Students also had the chance to sign-up to volunteer or take a tour of The Hope Center. There was a booth at lunch for students to get more information or sign-up. We had many students sign-up to volunteer individually as well as one of our choir groups and one of our athletic teams. Students could pick up a pamphlet and get the number to a hotline if they were involved in sex trafficking and needed help. Also, on February 7th, we held a booth before school. Students had the opportunity to get a red X written on their hand in honor of the End It Movement. This concluded our project with The Hope Center and the End It Movement.

Over the last few weeks, Audrey and I have met up with Sara Feasel and Joyce Helfers to plan a convocation. Sara and Joyce both work at The Hope Center, an after-care facility for girls who survived sex trafficking. Our convocation date is currently scheduled for February 6th. The goal of the presentation is to bring awareness to teach students about the issue of sex trafficking, how they can protect themselves, and how they can help put an end to sex trafficking. Sara and Joyce will share a testimony of one of the survivors. On February 6th and 7th, Sara and Joyce will be in the hallway by the cafeteria to answer any questions students may have. Also, on February 7th, we will have a booth where students can get a red X on their hand in honor of The End It Movement. Students will also be able to get a wristband. It is a gray silicone wristband with "The Hope Center" and "Speak up for those who can not" written on it in red letters. "Hebrews 13:3" will be engraved on the inside. We hope that students will be moved by this presentation and that they will join us in the fight to stop sex trafficking.
Along with my K9 project, I am working with Audrey VanderWal on a second project. We are working on planning a convocation for juniors and seniors at our school. The convocation with be about sex trafficking and the End It Movement. We are working with the Hope Center to plan a speaker for this event. We also are in the process of getting a survivor to share her testimony. We are holding the convocation on February 6th. On February 7th before school, we will have a table where people can buy bracelets and get a red X written on their hand. We chosen to hold the convocation on the 6th because the 7th is the national End It Movement day. Throughout these few days, all students will have link on canvas where they can sign up to help volunteer at the Hope Center. Our goal through all of this is to raise awareness about sex trafficking and encourage everyone to speak up for those who cannot.
